El nuevo Reglamento General de Protección de Datos de Carácter Personal (RGPD), regula el tratamiento de datos personales en las empresas, organismos públicos y actividades profesionales. Con el fin de regular el tratamiento de datos personales, el RGPD impone diversas obligaciones que pueden variar en función del tipo de datos.

También deberán cumplir las medidas de índole técnica y organizativa que establece el Real Decreto 1720/2007 que afecta a las personas que intervengan en el tratamiento de sistemas informáticos, ficheros, equipos, locales, programas, sistemas de protección, accesos, copias de seguridad, etc.

En función del incumplimiento de la normativa, las sanciones pueden ir de un máximo de 10.000.000 € o el 2% de la facturación anual del ejercicio anterior en las sanciones más leves, hasta 20.000.000 € o el 4% de la facturación anual del ejercicio anterior en sanciones más graves como puede ser el incumplimiento de las resoluciones de la autoridad de control. Siempre es más rentable contar con una empresa de protección de datos.
